“It hurts my heart to say it, but I don’t miss Hampstead at all.”

Until she was in the thirties, Shubhi Grover had only lived in huge cities. First her home Mumbai in India and then her adopted home in London.

Two months ago, Shubhi took her first step into country life – and she could no longer look forward to her new commuter lifestyle after exchanging the city oasis of Primrose Hill for hectares and hectares of open landscape.

The 35 -year -old Shubhi moved to London in 2021 to make a master’s degree at the London School of Economics. Then she did a job in public relations and is now a consumer director of a communications company.

Her first home in the capital was a student of Hallen at King’s Cross and from there she moved to Islington and then to Hampstead, where she paid for 1,700 PCM for a tiny studio apartment.

“My friends kindly called it the shoe box and my mother said it was as if I was lived on a train railway because there were suitcases everywhere,” said Shubi.

Finally, she decided that she didn’t want to imitate friends, rent the space to accommodate her overcrowded possessions, and really needed a home with more space.

So she started asking friends and connections for recommendations for practical commuter options. When Welwyn Garden City, only 20 miles north of the Central London, suggested taking a look at it, and was immediately taken with its combination of convenience and open space.

“There is a sign” Welcome to Welwyn Garden City – a marriage from the country and city “and that is exactly right,” said Shubhi. “I am a big believer in gut feeling and I just found it the right place.”

Shubhi made the move two months ago and now shares a house with two bedrooms with her partner. You pay £ 1,000 PCM for the property. “You get a lot more space from London,” said Shubhi.

Welwyn Garden City’s trains to King’s Cross last about half an hour, and a tour costs £ 30 – Shubhi is expected in the office three days a week, but despite the additional travel expenses, it is still better in Welwyn than in London.

“I am very looking forward to my weekends because I can do the things that I really like to enjoy like cooking and gardening-and I have a walk-in wardrobe with so much space for all my shoes and bags,” she said.

She also enjoys exploring the area, visiting the cafes and boutiques of St. Albans and going to the landscape to get walks. “It was a really big change in my life,” she said. “It hurts my heart to say it, but I don’t miss Hampstead at all.”
